Information about the Sumatran Tiger: The Sumatran Tiger is found only on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Like all tigers the Sumatran Tiger is critically endangered because of poaching and habitat destruction. There are as few as 350 left in the wild today. They are the smallest of the tiger subspecies with a height 30″ at shoulder, weight 200-450 pounds and a body length of 84-106 inches. These large carnivores feed on wild boar, tapir and deer. Attacks on humans are rare, although continuing human encroachment on their last remaining refuges are increasingly leading to conflicts, although usually the tiger is the one who is hurt or killed.
